Your Privacy Rights

At Stride, we believe you should have control over your personal data. This page explains your privacy rights and how to exercise them. These rights apply regardless of where you live, though some are specifically guaranteed by laws like GDPR (EU) and CCPA (California).

2. Right to Access (Know What We Have)

You have the right to know what personal data we collect and how we use it.

What You Can Access

  • All your training session data
  • Your dog profiles and information
  • Your account information
  • Photos and videos you've uploaded
  • Your progress and analytics data
  • AI recommendations we've generated
  • Your subscription and billing history

How to Access Your Data

  1. Log in to your Stride account
  2. Browse your dashboard - all your data is visible there
  3. For billing history: Settings > Billing
  4. For a complete export: Settings > Export Data

3. Right to Correction (Fix Incorrect Data)

You can update or correct any personal information in your account.

How to Correct Your Data

  • Account info: Settings > Profile
  • Dog profiles: Dashboard > Dogs > Edit Dog
  • Training sessions: Click any session to edit
  • Billing info: Settings > Billing > Update Payment Method

4. Right to Deletion (Right to Be Forgotten)

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.

What Gets Deleted

  • All training session data
  • All dog profiles
  • All photos and videos
  • Your account information
  • AI recommendations and retrospectives
  • All personal data we store about you

What We Keep (Legal Requirements)

  • Transaction records for tax purposes (7 years, as required by law)
  • Anonymized usage statistics (no personal data)

How to Delete Your Account

  1. Go to Settings > Delete Account
  2. Read the warning carefully
  3. Enter your password to confirm
  4. Click "Permanently Delete My Account"

Warning: Deletion is permanent! We recommend exporting your data first. After deletion, we cannot recover your data.

Timeline

  • Immediate: Your account is deactivated
  • Within 24 hours: All personal data is deleted from active systems
  • Within 30 days: Data is removed from backups

5. Right to Data Portability (Take Your Data)

You can export all your data in a portable, machine-readable format.

What You Get

A ZIP file containing:

  • All training session data (JSON format)
  • Dog profiles (JSON format)
  • All your uploaded photos and videos
  • Progress and analytics data
  • AI recommendations and retrospectives

How to Export

  1. Go to Settings > Export Data
  2. Click "Request Data Export"
  3. We'll prepare your export (usually takes a few minutes)
  4. Download the ZIP file

You can export your data at any time, even during the 90-day grace period after cancellation.

6. Right to Object to Processing

You can object to certain ways we process your data.

What You Can Object To

  • Marketing emails: Unsubscribe from newsletters
  • Analytics cookies: Opt out of Umami analytics
  • AI recommendations: Not currently possible to disable while using the service (core feature)

What You Cannot Object To

Some processing is necessary to provide the service:

  • Storing your training data (that's the whole point of Stride!)
  • Essential cookies for authentication
  • Billing and payment processing

Alternative: If you don't want us to process your data at all, you can delete your account.

7. Right to Restrict Processing

In certain situations, you can ask us to restrict how we process your data:

  • If you contest the accuracy of your data (while we verify it)
  • If processing is unlawful but you don't want deletion
  • If we no longer need the data but you need it for legal claims
  • If you've objected to processing (while we verify your request)

To request restriction, email nick@stride.dog with details.

8. Right to Withdraw Consent

For things that require your consent, you can change your mind at any time.

Newsletter

  • Click "Unsubscribe" in any newsletter email
  • Or go to Settings > Notifications

Analytics Cookies

  • Change your cookie preferences
  • Or enable "Do Not Track" in your browser

Account Deletion

  • Delete your account to withdraw all consent

Note: Withdrawing consent doesn't affect any processing we did before you withdrew it.

9. Right to Complain

If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain.

File an Official Complaint

If you're in the European Union:

  • Contact your local data protection authority (supervisory authority)
  • Find your authority: EDPB Member List

If you're in California:

  • California Attorney General's Office
  • Website: oag.ca.gov/privacy

Other locations:

  • Contact your local consumer protection agency
  • Or email the US Federal Trade Commission: ftc.gov

10. Specific Rights by Location

European Union (GDPR Rights)

If you're in the EU, you have all the rights above, plus:

  • Right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority
  • Right to object to automated decision-making (we don't do fully automated decisions that significantly affect you)
  • Right to appoint a representative for data protection matters

California (CCPA Rights)

If you're a California resident, you have:

  • Right to know what personal information is collected
  • Right to know if we sell your personal information (we don't!)
  • Right to opt-out of sale (not applicable - we don't sell data)
  • Right to deletion
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights

United Kingdom (UK GDPR)

UK residents have the same rights as EU residents under UK GDPR.

11. How to Exercise Your Rights

Self-Service (Fastest)

Most rights can be exercised directly in your account:

  • Access: Log in and view your data
  • Export: Settings > Export Data
  • Correct: Edit any data in your account
  • Delete: Settings > Delete Account
  • Unsubscribe: Newsletter unsubscribe link
  • Cookies: Cookie preferences banner

Contact Us

For rights that can't be exercised through your account:

  • Email: nick@stride.dog
  • Subject line: "Privacy Rights Request"
  • Include: Your account email, which right you're exercising, and any details

Response Time

  • We'll respond within 30 days (GDPR requirement)
  • For California residents: within 45 days (CCPA requirement)
  • Complex requests may take longer - we'll let you know

Verification

To protect your privacy, we may ask you to verify your identity before fulfilling requests.

12. No Charge

Exercising your privacy rights is free. We don't charge for:

  • Accessing your data
  • Exporting your data
  • Correcting your data
  • Deleting your data
  • Any other privacy rights

Exception: If you make repetitive, excessive, or clearly unfounded requests, we may charge a reasonable fee or refuse the request.
